TORQUAY
HOOP GALLERY Address: MAP 77 Beach Road, Torquay VIC 3228 Contact: Daniela Rodriguez Email: [email protected] Website: surfcoastartspace.com.au Category: Not for profit / Apply Hoop Gallery is an exciting new not for profit art gallery located run by a voluntary committee in Torquay as part of The MAC (Multi Arts Centre). The old sport and recreation building located next to the Australian Surf Museum and Information Centre, was handed over to the community after years of lobbying to find a permanent home for a local gallery and Torquay Theatre Troupe (TTT). With infrastructure funding from the Victoria Government and Surf Coast Shire, part of the previous basketball court has been transformed to offer a large space with mobile walls for artists to exhibit and sell work to local and visiting audiences. Hoop Gallery aims to provide a hub for artists to professionally network, offer public art programs and community art activities, engage with the regional community and seek creative outcomes, and help share a diverse range of stories and new ideas.

(Well there is amazing pizza next door, so that solves the food dilemma!) Anna and Simon opened In the Skies in October 2020 with a passion for building community through the arts and sharing a deep respect for Indigenous Sovereignty. In a short time, with Covid thrown into the mix, they have nurtured a creative chub where monthly exhibitions feature dynamic local artists, many of whom we don’t tend to see in other spaces throughout our region – and accompanying catalogues and funky design continually pique our curiosity.
