Surf Coast Arts Inc participates in PORTAL

Surf Coast Arts Inc committee members proudly participated in the Surf Coast Shire's PORTAL sessions. Each Zoom event is recorded and made available to view through the Surf Coast Arts Trail website and the Surf Coast Shire Youtube page. The videos we've been involved in directly can be found on this page - just to make it all a bit easier to access!

PORTAL was produced by the Surf Coast Shire in response to the Covid-19 Pandemic of 2020. Through June, July and August 2020, PORTAL was developed to keep us connected, creative and collaborating – offering an online space to capture the work of our region’s local creatives and how they are adapting to change.

Due to the success of the 3 month project, funding was secured to continue PORTAL until into the new year.
PORTAL SEASON 2 was handed over to the community to add their voice and PORTAL Summer launched 'Buy Local, Buy Creative'.

For more information, please contact the Surf Coast Shire Arts Development Officer Harriet Gaffney.

Unfurling Surf Coast Artists: Julie Dyer in Conversation with Mark Trinham

Prior to any ideas about a Surf Coast arts sector, artists were ensuring they had a voice. Ideas of environmental groups and the philosophy of local artists were, and are, closely aligned. Join Surf Coast Arts Inc Treasurer Julie Dyer and multi disciplinary artist Mark Trinham as they “unfurl Surf Coast artists”. This is the first of PORTAL's Sunday Morning Sessions 'Women in Conversation'. A series of interviews, panel discussions and in-depth discussion hosted by and featuring pre-eminent women in arts on the Surf Coast.

She'll be discussing the project with MAC's chair George Carman, Torquay Theatre Troupe's Gay Bell, Surf Coast Shire Art Space (Anglesea) President Sally Groom and photographer and cultural leader Daniela Rodriguez.

A Sense of Place: Connecting community to place through arts and creativity

Local artists Jacqui Dreessens and Wendy Grose (current SCA committee member) discuss the importance of creativity and the arts in creating a sense of place.
Surf Coast Arts Inc President Helen Gibbins  joins them both in conversation about creating original site specific community theatre, music and dance in the beautiful environs of the Surf Coast, and in particular during the Torquay High Tide Festival which ran from 1995 to 2014..

Launch: Natural Connections Project

Host Sally Groom (President Surf Coast Shire Art Space, Anglesea & Torquay MAC Committee Member) joins artist Caroline Hawkins (Surf Coast Arts Inc Vice President) to discuss the intentions behind Caroline's new project. Caroline is an Anglesea artist who has worked with natural materials to create ephemeral works for several years. Developed in conjunction with the Drolkar Buddhist centre, the project will offer ways for participants to cultivate a connection to nature and promote greater emotional wellbeing - a necessity as we face the difficult reality of climate change.
