Torquay Cowrie Market returns home to the Esplanade!

10/12/2021

Covid has been an absolute roller coaster ride for this little group of volunteers, as we have tried to navigate the constantly changing Covid environment. Well in advance we moved the site to the Torquay Common off Surf Beach Drive  so we could manage requirements to be as Covid Safe as we could. But now that just about everything has opened up, we are able to return to our beloved location on Torquay's foreshore at the Elephant Walk, where we know how to set up with our eyes closed! So please join us for the remaining dates for a whole lot of fun, remember when?! Stay safe friends, and help keep our stallholders safe, by social distancing, sanitising and scanning QR codes. You know the drill by now!
Happy days.

This season's dates are planned to be:
10am-3pm
Sunday 19 December 2021
Sunday 20 February 2022
Sunday 20 March 2022

Cowrie Market on the Common!

22/11/2021

Goodness, it's been an incredibly difficult couple of years for Cowrie Market and our stallholders. Due to State Government guidelines in relation to Covid, we were heartbroken to miss a the whole 2020/21 season. This was due to the size our our market and the Torquay foreshore Elephant Walk location being unsuitable to monitor check ins.

Our very small team of volunteers have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to open our beloved market again. With restrictions still in place and an unknown future, we consulted with the Shire and GORCAPA. A decision was made to move to the Torquay Common, so three identifiable entry/exit points could help us monitor numbers and check ins. Of course Covid has seen us adapting to circumstances that have changed very quickly, so it's no surprise that the production process has been overwhelming. But we're back! We are excited to hold the market at Torquay Common - we hope you will come together to support our stallholders and enjoy our temporary home. Spread the word!!

Vic Government says no to a January market

1/1/2021

Sadly, we have been notified by the Victoria Government there will be no large events allowed to go ahead in January, so our application to open the Torquay Cowrie Market with a Covid plan in place will not be considered.

This has certainly been a season like no other. We know how frustrating this news is for stall holders and visitors, so cross your fingers and toes along with us, and let's hope we can go ahead with a February market. We truly can’t wait to see you!

Please support our stall holders through the online market at www.torquaycowriemarket.com
