Sadly, we have been notified by the Victoria Government there will be no large events allowed to go ahead in January, so our application to open the Torquay Cowrie Market with a Covid plan in place will not be considered. This has certainly been a season like no other. We know how frustrating this news is for stall holders and visitors, so cross your fingers and toes along with us, and let's hope we can go ahead with a February market. We truly can’t wait to see you! Please support our stall holders through the online market at www.torquaycowriemarket.com Follow us on Facebook or Instagram for updates. Did you know there's a brand new community led arts centre being developed in Torquay at the old Sport & Rec Centre? Yes, just a wee bit exciting! Our friends at The MAC are seeking Surf Coast residents with a passion for both visual and performance arts and a commitment to raise the profile of all local arts and practitioners by joining their Board. As a unique opportunity, Expressions of Interest are being sought for professional expertise in Executive, Financial, OH&S, Marketing, Media, Governance, Legal, Training & Operational General Knowledge. You can download a pdf of the details here. Individuals are being asked to include a brief CV, a summary of skill sets, current community commitments and contact details - which can be sent to The Secretary, surfcoastmac@gmail.com by 18 December 2020. > Visit their Facebook page Here you can find a recorded panel session facilitated by SCA President Helen Gibbins, which was part of the PORTAL series organised by the Surf Coast Shire. We encourage you to set some time aside to learn more about what is being planned, and to consider getting involved (or passing on the information to someone you know). It really is a golden opportunity to drive the very early stages of an exciting new project for our region. Annual General Meeting 2020 Tuesday 15 December 2020, 7.30pm start The Light Box, 2/7-9 Cylinders Drive, Torquay MEMBERS INVITATION + COMMITTEE NOMINATIONS OPEN! Yes, it's that time of the year! Current SCA members are invited to attend the 2020 Surf Coast Arts Inc. AGM and to nominate new committee members for this next exciting phase. RSVPs are essential. For more information, to RSVP and submit a nomination, please head to www.surfcoastarts.com/sca-agm-2020 It is with a heavy heart that we announce there will not be a December market as hoped. The decision has not been made lightly, and we know how disappointing this outcome is - but at our recent meeting we conceded we are too under resourced at this point in time to ensure the event is Covid safe. We hope our stallholders will now be able to participate in other markets for Xmas sales, and we will continue to support them through the online market at www.torquaycowriemarket.com, increasing posts throughout December in the lead up to Xmas. All going well, we are optimistic about commencing in January 2021 and hope to confirm that soon. Please continue to email your expressions of interest to the Cowrie Market. Cowrie Market is run by a very small group of volunteers, who work tirelessly to make it happen year after year. It's incredible the same committed individuals have created such a long running and beloved event. If we had managed to hold a December market, it would have been the largest event in our region, and that's a risk we're just not quite prepared for at this moment. There are many moving parts to Cowrie Market - we need to work out how to manage summer crowds, how to redesign the layout (which would mean making a tough decision of who can stay), remove key elements like gathering to eat and enjoying music, and find extra volunteers to help. We can't wait to see you in 2021! Surf Coast Arts Inc committee members proudly participated in the Surf Coast Shire's PORTAL sessions. Each Zoom event is recorded and made available to view through the PORTAL Facebook page - where there are also other discussions, recorded studio tours, music and storybook sessions to explore. The videos we've been directly involved in have been collated for this website under LEARN - just to make it all a bit easier to find! PORTAL is produced by the Surf Coast Shire in response to the Covid-19 Pandemic of 2020. Through June, July and August, PORTAL was developed to keep us connected, creative and collaborating – offering an online space to capture the work of our region’s local creatives and how they are adapting to change. Due to the success of the 3 month project, funding was secured to continue PORTAL until into the new year. PORTAL SEASON 2 has been handed over to the community to add their voice to the Surf Coast Arts Trail website and social media. To get involved (& we suggest you do!), please contact the Surf Coast Shire Arts Development Officer Harriet Gaffney.
